Tabacco: See anything in Incorporation about Morality, Ethics or Honesty? Oh yeah, you can’t break the Laws! Guess who writes the Laws – that’s right, the Corporations! That means that for Corporations, not breaking the Laws is “Low Hanging Fruit” – and yet they still manage to break the Laws! Suppose Corporations didn’t write the Laws in the first place! What then!

So exactly what (besides not breaking the Laws) are Corporations required to do?

http://www.howdju.com/statement/361/executives-of-us-corporations-are-legally-required-to-maximize-their-corporations-profits

Tabacco: “Maximize their corporation’s profits”! And if there is a conflict between maximizing profits and morality or ethics? Well, Laws are vague and meant to be manipulated if not actually broken! Besides, that’s what Insurance is for!

But we expect more from Institutions like Penn State University! The question is WHY! How do Universities differ from Oil Companies or Catholic Churches? Only the fear of a GREATER PENALTY could coerce Corporate Executives at Penn State to NOT protect and insulate their own and the University’s reputation over some teenage boy, naked and lubricated in a shower by a male University Football Executive.

Probe: Penn State Football Coach, Officials Covered Up Child Molestation

An exhaustive independent probe has concluded top officials at Penn State University — including legendary football coach Joe Paterno — covered up sexual molestation allegations against an assistant coach 14 years before they finally came to light. The seven-month investigation reveals Paterno, Penn State President Graham Spanier and other school officials were aware then-assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was accused of child molestation as early as 1998, but were only concerned with protecting the school’s image. The report concludes that a “culture of reverence for the football program” at the school led to a cover-up that “failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade.” Sandusky was finally arrested last year and found guilty of sexually abusing 10 young boys last month. Unveiling his findings on Thursday, former FBI director Louis Freeh said Penn State’s leadership had allowed Sandusky’s abuse to continue.

-

Louis Freeh: “Our most saddening and sobering finding is the total disregard for the safety and welfare of Sandusky’s child victims by the most senior leaders at Penn State. Misters Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley also failed to alert the board of trustees about the 1998 investigation or take any other action against Mr. Sandusky. None of them ever spoke to Sandusky about his conduct. In short, nothing was done, and Sandusky was allowed to continue with impunity.”

The report’s findings show Paterno, who died earlier this year, made false statements to a grand jury and to the public about his knowledge of the allegations against Sandusky. An email by Penn State athletic director Tim Curley from 1998 — three years before Paterno said he first heard of the allegations — reads: “Anything new in this department? Coach is anxious to know where it stands.” After Sandusky was again accused of abusing a young boy on campus in 2001, Paterno reportedly convinced his colleagues that it would be most “humane” to deal with the matter internally instead of reporting him to police. A janitor at the school reportedly failed to report witnessing Sandusky abuse a young boy in 2000 out of fear he would lose his job. The janitor said, “Paterno has so much power, if he wanted to get rid of someone, I would have been gone. … Football runs this university.” In response to the report, Penn State is facing pressure to remove a statue of Paterno displayed prominently on campus. The report is also expected to fuel a number of civil lawsuits against the school on behalf of the victims. Curley, the former athletic director, and the school’s former Vice President Gary Schultz, still face criminal charges for failing to inform police about Sandusky’s abuse and for lying before a grand jury about their knowledge of it.

Tabacco: I used DN! Headline because it covered the essentials of this matter in the briefest possible manner. If you watch TV at all, you doubtless know about this story. TV is like a sledgehammer when it gets hold of a “story with legs”. If you want 24-7 coverage, you know where to look!

The Bruce Ritter case

The other night while strolling with a friend in midtown Manhattan I chanced to pass by Covenant House, a charitable institution that helps runaway youths. I remembered that I had once given money to the institution, before the disgrace that enveloped its founder, Rev. Bruce Ritter, in 1989-90. As this affair was a precursor of the pedophile scandals that have since rocked the Catholic Church in America, it is worth reviewing the circumstances.

A member of the Franciscan order, Rev. (John) Bruce Ritter (1927-1999) began a one-man outreach to homeless youth in Manhattan’s East Village during the “flower-child” era of the 1960s. To further his work he founded Covenant House in 1968. At its height, Covenant House operated in fifteen cities with a $90,000,000 budget, reputedly spending three times what the federal government did on runaways. Father Ritter’s work was held in high esteem by the public, the news media, a multitude of donors, and by president George H. W. Bush, who cited it as one of his “thousand points of light.” Father Ritter himself was sometimes mentioned in the same sentence with Mother Teresa.

Ritter was noted for his empathy with his young charges, though some noted that this affinity seemed to extend particularly to attractive white boys. He called the teenagers in the Covenant House “my kids,” “nice kids,” and “gorgeous kids.”

In December 1989 Kevin Lee Kite (born 1964), a former hustler and gay porn actor, claimed in a New York Post interview that Father Ritter had diverted some $125,000 in Covenant House funds to support him in return for sexual favors. Kite also asserted that Ritter had provided him with papers that allowed him to assume the identity of Tim Warner, a young boy who had died of cancer. Subsequently three former residents of Covenant House–Darryl J. Bassile, Paul Johnson, and John Melican–came forward, stating that they had been involved in past sexual relationships with Father Ritter.

Kite’s accusations opened the door for financial scrutiny of Covenant House which led to charges of financial impropriety stemming from the use of a $one million tax-exempt Franciscan Charitable Trust. In his earlier work in the East Village Ritter had found that it was sometimes necessary to circumvent normal procedures in order to support his work. As Margaret O’Brien Steinfels explains, “the priest’s aversion to red tape and oversight, beginning with his relationship with his religious brethren, served him well in working his way around the maze of child welfare regulations. He was a priest but not of the Archdiocese of New York, which had no authority over him. His Franciscan community, based in New Jersey, let him live beyond the confines of its walls, perhaps because he was a difficult person but probably also because he was a self-sustainer at a time when religious orders were losing members and trying to adjust to changes in the church.”

Laudable at first, this freewheeling approach to funding and regulations created a bad precedent. At all events, Ritter established the Franciscan Charitable Trust in 1983, apparently without the knowledge of his Franciscan order or of the full board of directors of Covenant House. The fund was not registered with the state of New York, nor did it file returns with the IRS. The harsh reality was that the trust, ostensibly set up to support the charitable work of Covenant House, served mainly as a conduit to make substantial personal payments to Kite and others.

Curiously, the Covenant House board eventually found no serious financial impropriety, even though they uncovered extensive evidence of sexual misconduct. As a result, no charges were filed by the district attorney Robert M. Morgenthau or state attorney general Robert Abrams. In view of what we later learned from the priestly pedophile scandals, this looks like a cover-up–a partial one, at least–on the part of the overseeing authorities. Fiscally, they failed to do their duty.

Still denying the allegations, Ritter resigned from the charity and the Franciscan order in 1990. Ritter eventually retired to the small town of Decatur in upstate New York, where he died of cancer at the age of 72.

I do not know what has happened to Kevin Lee Kite, the whistle blower. Clearly he was a sleazy individual. Yet sometimes information that is valid derives from unsavory sources, as we have seen in the more recent scandals of James McGreevey, former governor of New Jersey, and John Edwards, former senator and aspirant to higher office. This repellent origin must not serve as a pretext to disregard the allegations. If that were so, all that a person who had been involved in an improper relationship would have to do would make sure that the information was revealed in an unsavory manor. Then the person would be “home free.”

Whatever the source, the information must be fully investigated. In the Ritter instance it looks as if the investigation was incomplete, to say the least. In addition to having sex with minors, Ritter was guilty of embezzlement and abuse of authority.

At all events, Kevin Kite deserves credit for helping to encourage others in the United States to report priests who were involved in inappropriate relations with those in their care. In the sequel the Ritter case proved to be but the tip of the tip of the iceberg.

Tabacco: If you live in New York, you might remember “Father” Bruce Ritter, Covenant House and “Under 21”. I did. So I looked up a recap of the “Catholic Male Mother Teresa”.

I find it “unsurprising” that the Catholic Church could find nothing financially inconsistent in Father Ritter’s handling of all that money. First and foremost, the Catholic Church is NOT about “saving souls”; the Catholic Church is about MAXIMIZING PROFITS – just like all other Corporations. We’re talking about the King of Tithes here! Why else do you think the Church supports making Illegal Aliens (mostly Catholic Hispanics) US Citizens! That Tithing Document cannot be far behind!

”Curiously, the Covenant House board eventually found no serious financial impropriety, even though they uncovered extensive evidence of sexual misconduct.”

Father Ritter was a CASH COW for the Pope! You not only don’t kill the CASH COW, you protect it, cover up for it, attempt to keep the Ca$h coming in, move it to safety in Decatur, New York, or India (that was the rumor then).

ANALYSIS

This Post is NOT a Vent against Pedophilia. You’ve heard and read enough of that already. Instead it is a Vent against Hypocrisy.

The only Pedophiles that get Press in America are Catholic Priests, Boy Scout Masters, YMCA Administrators, School Teachers & Administrators, Politicians, and Public Figures of any note.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Kay_Letourneau

Mary Kay Fualaau (née Schmitz; born January 30, 1962), formerly known as Mary Kay Letourneau, is an American schoolteacher who was imprisoned from 1997 to 2004 for having sexual intercourse with her 13-year-old student, Vili Fualaau. She gave birth to two of Fualaau’s children while incarcerated. After her release from prison in 2004, Letourneau married Fualaau and took his name.

The message is clear – if you are a Pedophile, don’t belong to any of these groups and all you need fear is exposure from Meagan’s Law, that TV show that entraps and videotapes pedophiles in the act of procuring and possibly a personal vendetta. Otherwise, the Mainstream Media is NOT interested in your Pedophilia. Proceed as you were!

The Media acts as if Penn State University should have followed some MORAL PRECEPT instead of CAPITALIST DOGMA as codified in Documents of Incorporation. THAT SHIP HAS SAILED! We lost that opportunity when we permitted “INCORPORATION” without Moral Restraints except ‘Don’t Break The Law’. Similarly, those, who rail against Political Corruption, should have spoken up when Congress was codifying the Legalization of Political Bribery aka LOBBYING!

Hell, Popes have done much more than Joe Paterno has done if not exactly what Jerry Sandusky has done! The problem is that

POPES ARE “TOO BIG TO FAIL”!

In the future, Universities will no doubt be more responsive to boys, sexually molested by their Administrators, if not to Media Censure! But that “Sensitivity” will have little to do with MORAL IMPERATIVES! It will be a direct result of pursuing Capitalist Dollar$. Any other motive would be in direct conflict with the Articles of Incorporation!

Do Universities perform a hysterectomy on the cancerous growth in their midst and suffer temporary financial loss and public support, or do they cover-up for that cancerous growth, hope for the best and risk, if found out, continuing Public and Media Censure, which could reduce their Income for years into the future?

Penn State is a valuable lesson in Capitalism! In the future, Universities and their like will undoubtedly choose the

LESSER OF TWO EVILS!

I filter out the irrelevancies and trivialities to save both the time and effort of my Readers and bring consternation to the enemies of Truth & Fairness! MY APOLOGIES!

Tabacco has been unable to walk without assistance and without great pain since May 22nd. I have been suffering from self-induced medical problems. Namely, I found coldcuts and cheese at the Dollar Store. Who could resist the price! I forgot to mention I am also lazy! So instead of cooking or eating out sensibly, I began shoving 3 sandwiches a day into my face – INSTANT GRATIFICATION!

I’ve had bouts with GOUT before, but this was by far the worst. It was accompanied by RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis), which went from excruciating feet and ankle pain and inability to even walk, followed by feet swelling, moderate pain and inability to walk without holding onto something. This episode began May 22nd. Today is July 13th, and I am much better. The pain is almost completely gone and the swelling is minimal. And I still have taken no medicine at all. They did tests all right, but I’ve beaten this thing by eating smartly, not by popping pills or being a pincushion. It won’t be long before I am back in the Wyandanch School Board’s hair again. Don’t worry guys, I’m almost 100% again and raring to go!

Eating all that protein caused all my feet problems. The trouble is I knew better! There is nothing like knowing better but ignoring your own knowledge. Who said, “Old age brings wisdom”?
